This gelding is no stranger to ranch life, having tackled hard days of moving herds, pasture roping, and doctoring cattle with ease. He's incredibly responsive, lying down and sitting on command, which adds an extra layer of fun! The young riders of Yoder Equine can confidently ride him at all three gaits—walk, trot, and lope—during trail rides or in the arena, and he’s even happy to join them on their adventures to the swing set. He’ll even pull one kid sitting on a tarp while being ridden by another kid!

Smarty’s athleticism and responsiveness are commendable, featuring a nice turnaround and stop, as well as a soft response in both face and body and three smooth gaits. He moves off leg pressure with grace and can easily pick up a lope. He’s often ridden bridle-less which demonstrates the ease in which it takes to navigate him.  When it comes to getting mounted, he side-passes right to the mounting block, ensuring an easy hop on for his riders.  He’s started over small jumps, making him a great choice for a prospective fox hunter.

No obstacle causes him hesitation during trail rides—he confidently navigates through, over, and under anything that is in his way, all while maintaining a relaxed demeanor even in town with traffic. He takes pride in ponying colts to teach them how to lead, showing his gentle nature, experience, and ability to teach, colts and riders!

Smarty is well-desensitized to a variety of things, including bull whips, tarps, and balls, making him a dependable partner. He enjoys ranch sorting and approaches the task with enthusiasm and athleticism, showcasing his willingness to work hard. At liberty in the arena, he shines as he showcases his three gaits, maintaining a strong connection with his handler and eagerly awaiting the next cue.
