The love of family, faith, and horses, that pretty much sums up Tietjen Performance Horses.
Terry, Kate, Jocelyn, Laramie, and Cheyenne, this is our family, the main thing our life and business revolves around.
We are based in Bellevue, IA on the Tietjen Family Farm. Our kids are the 6th generation to be raised here.
Our business started in 1994 when Terry bought 3 horses. One of those horses was an un-started paint filly. After starting that filly, the love of training horses and learning the best, easiest, and least stressful way to teach a horse what you wanted from them became his life’s mission. Since the beginning, Terry has started and trained thousands of horses that have gone on to a wide variety of disciplines, from endurance, barrel racing, roping, ranch work, trail riding, mounted shooting, VRH, reining cow horse and cutting.
Terry met the love of his life in 2015 and after a year of consistent nagging, in a moment of weakness she said yes, and they married in June of 2017. Our family started then and has been growing ever since. Kate is truly the one that makes this family and business work. Taking care of the kids, home schooling, taking care of the book work, schedules, and handling of clients. She also runs Big Muddy Leather, her hand made custom leather business. Not sure how she does it all.
This is a little bit of who we are and what we do. Family is what is most important. Faith binds and guides us. Horses make it possible for us to work, travel, meet new people and make memories.
